When people think of backpacking in the Southern USA, I dare say that Tennessee is the first place that pops in the average persons mind. With the Great Smokey Mountains National Park being the most visited park in the National Park System, there is little wonder that Tennessee is foremost in peoples minds. But, dont be fooled into believing that this state so rich in natural beauty is limited only to the Smokey Mountains. Tennessee is a land of mountains, streams, waterfalls, caves, canyons and all the attractions that drive one to strap on a pack and head out into the woods on foot.
Apart from the Smokey Mountains, Tennessee also has a vibrarant State Park system, many locations having backcountry opportunities. Then there is the Cherokee National Forest.
